Cooperation in education and science develops
The SCO is a unique interstate structure that has managed to unite countries with different state systems, cultures, political views and development models.
Over the past period, the Organization has passed a difficult path and has become an integral element of the modern political and economic world order. This platform has proven itself in bringing together the different interests of the participating countries. Including science and education. Article 3 of the SCO Charter lists science, technology and education among the main areas of cooperation. Consequently, education and science are important links in the dialogue between the participating countries.
In 2015, an agreement was signed between the SCO member states. It provides for scientific and technical cooperation in the protection of the environment and natural resources. In particular, cooperation is planned in natural and agricultural sciences, nanosystems and materials, information and communication technologies, energy and energy saving, earth sciences and others. These goals are defined in the Development Strategy 2025. It notes that the participating countries are striving to create favorable conditions for the development of ties in the scientific and technical sphere, in education, and in the expansion of relations between public associations and citizens.
The participating states develop ties between educational, scientific and research institutions in a bilateral and multilateral format, carry out joint scientific programs and projects in the interests of the parties. For cooperation in science and education, the SCO aims to use human capital, in particular, youth initiatives. In 2009, the Youth Council of the Organization was launched. The SCO Youth Council carries out several spiritual and enlightenment activities. During Uzbekistan’s presidency in the SCO in August this year, the Youth Festival “Summer of the SCO” was held. On June 1, 2022, the SCO-2022 Youth Scientific, Technical and Innovation Forum was organized.
During the forum, important issues of improving cooperation in the innovation economy, the development of agriculture, information and communication technologies were discussed. The activities of the SCO University within the framework of the organization should be noted. In 2008, the Concept for the establishment and organization of the activities of this University was signed, and in 2017 an agreement was signed on the establishment of the SCO University and its activities. Today, the University unites several major universities of the member states with a coordinated curriculum aimed at training highly qualified personnel in seven specialties.
The SCO University includes 74 universities from the member states of the organization. In general, it should be noted that education and science are the basis of development, and cooperation in this direction is one of the priority areas in the SCO’s activities.
