Uzbekistan celebrates International Day of Rural Women
On the occasion of October 15 – the International Day of Rural Women, Tashkent hosted a forum on “Prospects for the development of women’s entrepreneurship in the countryside and the participation of the population in ensuring food security” and the solemn event “Respect for a rural woman”.
The forum was organized in cooperation with the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Committee for Family and Women, the FAO, the USAID, the Association “Women of the Agricultural Sector” of Uzbekistan.
The Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Muzaffar Komilov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairperson of the State Committee for Family and Women Zulaykho Mahkamova and others noted that facilitating the work of rural women, prompt elimination of their problems, timely solution of relevant issues is a priority direction of the country’s policy.
National legislation has been improved in the last six years. Initiatives are being implemented to develop family entrepreneurship, provide women with additional benefits and opportunities, expand the scale of their coverage in higher education and solve financial problems. All this is an important basis for securing employment for women, improving family conditions, raising living standards and changing the worldview.
This year, the International Day of Rural Women in Uzbekistan is widely celebrated as a month of enlightenment in the context of mahallas, settlements, sectors, districts, remote territories.
Women make up 41.3 percent of the citizens employed in the agricultural sector, women lead 6,000 out of more than 80,000 farms.
A group of activists was presented with memorable gifts at the festive event “Respect for a rural woman”.
